Tomatoes - Slicers

$5.00

Juicy, hearty, and full of flavor—our slicer tomatoes are made for sandwich stacking, burger topping, and summer snacking. Grown with love and sunshine at Little Gay Garden, these beauties are big, bold, and ready to steal the show on your plate. Whether you're building the perfect BLT or just slicing one up with a sprinkle of salt, these tomatoes are the real deal.

Pruden's Purple - Johnny’s Seeds - Early variety
Early Brandywine type. Large to very large (many over 1 lb.) fruits are flattened and smooth (except for shoulder ribbing on some), and resist cracking. Vivid dark-pink skin with crimson flesh. Medium-tall, potato-leaf plants. Indeterminate. USDA Certified Organic.

Moskvich - Johnny’s seeds - Early variety
One of the most appealing extra-early tomatoes. Fruits are early, deep red, and cold tolerant. Rich flavor. Smooth and globe-shaped. 4-6 oz. with a small stem scar. Indeterminate. USDA Certified Organic.

(Note: Early varieties are fast-growing varieties perfect for shorter growing season—ripening earlier than most, it brings juicy, flavorful tomatoes to your table while others are still green. Great for short seasons or getting a head start on summer!)

Carbon - Baker Creek Seeds
These tomatoes have won taste awards coast to coast in the last few years, so we were pleased to locate a small supply of seed. The fruit is smooth, large, and beautiful, being one of the darkest and prettiest of the purple types we have seen. They seem to have an extra dose of the complex flavor that makes dark tomatoes famous.

Paul Robeson - Baker Creek Seeds
This famously tasty, brick-red tomato from Russia has a cult-like following among seed collectors and tomato connoisseurs, who simply cannot get enough of its distinctive, smoky-sweet flavor. Moscow seedswoman Marina Danilenko shared it with Seed Savers Exchange founder Kent Whealy in the 1990s, when he was working to connect with breeders and seed savers in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. It is named in honor of famous opera singer Paul Robeson, star of the 1936 film “Showboat.” Robeson was an influential African American activist, artist, actor, and athlete of the early to mid-20th century. His support of pro-Soviet policies made him an icon in Russia but a target of the American government at home.

Thorburn’s Terra Cotta - Baker Creek Seeds
Incredible flavor, color, and history! Introduced in 1893 by James Thorburn of New York, this is one of the most sensational tomatoes we have ever grown. With honey-brown skin, orange-pink flesh, and green seed mass, this is an eye-catching slicer with an out-of-this-world flavor. The tomato produces heavily during mid-season and then drops off quickly once cool weather sets in. As a cooker, it will yield a pumpkin-orange sauce with a floral aroma. We are excited to have this tomato that was painted in color in Thorburn’s 1893 catalog; at last, we can offer this rare treasure! From the collection of Dr. William Woys Weaver.

Bread and Salt - Baker Creek Seeds
This delectable, meaty, oxheart type is an heirloom from Russia. The name refers to the traditional custom of offering special guests bread and salt, a symbol of health and fortune. The fruit is large with dense, meaty flesh. It is exquisite for slicing, sauce making and everything in between.

Gold Medal - Baker Creek Seeds
The 1- to 3-pound fruits are among the smoothest bi-colored tomatoes we carry and one of the most beautiful we have seen. The yellow fruit is blushing with rosy red that radiates from the blossom end. Lovely! The firm flesh is of superior quality, being sweet and mild. It has very little acid; great for fresh eating. From the late, legendary seed collector, Ben Quisenberry.
